J.G. Melon - Cheers to a Great Burger

THE STORY
This dingy old-school pub opened doors in 1972 is found in nearly every top 10 burger list for NYC. With 3 tables in front and about a dozen in the back, JG Melon is pretty small and the wait is really long, especially when you are a party of 6. Wooden bar, tiny flat grill, bathrooms designed for short Smurfs, tin ceiling and checkered table cloths make up the vibe in this loud and classic feeling burger destination.  My friend's Vaughn and Kenny, arguably 2 of the biggest burger fans I know, chose JG's as our first official Burger Conquest together. They're favorite burger in the city is PJ Clarke's and honestly, JG Melon's has a VERY similar look and vibe.

THE BURGER
One bite of my medium rare burger with American cheese and onions confirmed the hype on JG Melon's burger; it was FANTASTIC. The burger was juicy and full of flavor, cooked just the right way and served on a toasted roll. No fancy sauces or periodic table mix of beef, just an old school burger done right. Harlan and Vaughn opted for bacon and it looked delicious. Everyone took on a side of the Ruffles styled french fries which were great as well. Considering we all got a burger and fries washed down with about 6 pack each, I was quite surprised to see the bill was only $170. Great friends, good times, delicious burgers and for an affordable price, a combo that almost makes me want to become the Norm of JG Melon!
